Located in southern Chester County and bordering Delaware, Kennett Township spans 15.6 square miles and is home to more than 8,000 residents. This vibrant community balances rich historical roots with forward-thinking initiatives that make it a standout municipality in the region.
A Storied Past
Kennett Township dates back to the early 1700s when land was first granted by William Penn. Once home to the Lenape people, it became a thriving Quaker farming community and a stop along the Underground Railroad. Key Revolutionary War skirmishes occurred here, and the township later became a hub for early agriculture, milling, and eventually mushroom farming — thanks to pioneers like William and J. Bancroft Swayne.
Conservation & Culture
Today, Kennett Township is a designated Bird Town, working to restore natural ecosystems and foster sustainable growth. The township prioritizes native planting, stormwater management, and environmental stewardship, aligning with Carroll Engineering’s commitment to sustainable solutions.

Kennett Township is home to over 300 acres of Longwood Gardens, one of the most iconic horticultural sites in the country. Visitors also enjoy proximity to historic landmarks, vibrant downtown Kennett Square, and regional attractions like Winterthur Museum and the Brandywine River Museum.
